Add Poise to your website
Five steps, about ten minutes. You paste one short piece of code, and a small “Ask us” button appears in the bottom-right corner of your pages. Visitors hold it and ask a question out loud, or type, and the coach answers from your own pages.
The code waits until your page has finished loading, so it never slows your site down. Nothing visitors say is recorded or stored.
Get your embed code from the dashboard
Sign in at beyondpoise.com/admin and open your store. In the Website Coach setup, go to 5 · Share or embed and copy the embed code. It looks like this, with your own store name in place of YOUR-STORE:
<script>addEventListener("load",function(){var s=document.createElement("script");s.src="https://beyondpoise.com/embed.js";s.setAttribute("data-store","YOUR-STORE");document.body.appendChild(s)})</script>Before the button answers anyone, two things must be done in the same setup screen: 4 · Prove the domain is yours (a meta tag or a small file, then press Verify), and an active plan. The code only works on your verified domain, so nobody can copy it onto another site.
Paste it just before </body>
Put the code once, in a place that appears on every page, just before the closing </body> tag. Most website builders have a “footer code”, “custom code” or “code injection” box for exactly this. Use the footer or “body end” box, not the header.
Paste it exactly as copied. Don't change the quotes or add spaces inside it.
Examples for your website builder
WordPress
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New and install a header-and-footer code plugin, such as WPCode.
- Open the plugin's Header & Footer screen.
- Paste your embed code into the Footer box, then press Save.
On WordPress.com, adding code needs a plan that allows plugins. If your theme has its own “footer scripts” box, you can paste the code there instead.
Wix
- In your site's dashboard, open Settings, then Custom Code (under Advanced, or Development & integrations).
- Press + Add Custom Code and paste your embed code. Name it “Poise”.
- Choose All pages and Load code once, and place the code in Body - end. Press Apply.
Wix allows custom code on sites with a paid plan and a connected domain.
Squarespace
- Open Settings, then Code Injection (under Advanced or Developer Tools, depending on your version).
- Paste your embed code into the Footer box.
- Press Save.
Code Injection is available on Squarespace plans that include custom code.
Shopify
- In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes. Next to your live theme, open the … menu and choose Edit code.
- Under Layout, open theme.liquid.
- Find
</body>near the bottom, paste your embed code on the line just above it, and press Save.
If you change themes later, paste the code into the new theme too.
Plain HTML
- Open your page's HTML file, or the shared footer or template file if your site has one.
- Paste your embed code on the line just above
</body>. - Save and upload the file. If every page has its own file, repeat for each page where you want the button.
Menu names change from time to time. If you can't find the box, search your builder's help pages for “add custom code to footer”.
Choose which pages the coach reads
- In 1 · Your website address, enter your address and press Save address. Poise counts your pages first. Nothing is read yet.
- 50 pages or fewer: press Read my website. The coach reads all of them.
- More than 50 pages: tick the 50 that matter most. Your homepage and your main menu pages are ticked for you. Press Save my pages, then Read my website.
- More than 1,000 pages: larger websites aren't part of the self-serve plan. Contact us.
Poise never reads sign-in, account, cart or checkout pages, PDFs, images, feeds, or tag and category pages, and it respects your robots.txt. To leave out other pages, add them under Pages to include or skip.
If you tick Re-read my website weekly, the coach re-reads only your chosen pages. When you add pages to your website, they appear under New pages found. They are never added by themselves; you swap them in, keeping within 50.
Test it
- Open your website in a private (incognito) window and wait for the page to finish loading.
- Look for the 🎙 Ask us button in the bottom-right corner. Press it to open the coach.
- Tap one of the suggested questions, or hold the button and ask out loud. The first time, your browser asks for microphone permission. The microphone is on only while you hold the button.
- Check that the answer is right and that the From: link under it opens the right page.
- Try it on your phone too.
No button, or it doesn't answer?
- “This coach is not active”: verify your domain (setup step 4) and check your plan is active.
- No button at all: check the code is in the footer or body-end box and was saved and published. If you use a caching plugin or CDN, clear its cache.
- Your site sets a Content-Security-Policy: allow
https://beyondpoise.cominscript-srcandframe-src, and allow the short inline loader script. If your site sets a Permissions-Policy, allow the microphone forhttps://beyondpoise.com. - Still stuck? Contact us with your website address.
To remove the coach, delete the code from your website. Nothing else is needed.
